Mudavadi Wealth: Things He Owns, Absa Shares & Sh3bn Deal

Mudavadi wealth explained, his net worth, things he owns, Absa shares and the musalia mudavadi business acquisition sh3bn insurance deal.

Mudavadi wealth is back in focus after a group linked to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi announced an insurance purchase.

The musalia mudavadi business acquisition sh3bn has drawn attention across Kenya’s financial and political circles. It also invites a closer look at the assets behind one of the country’s most prominent public figures.

The Musalia Mudavadi Business Acquisition Sh3bn Explained

First Assurance Investments Limited has agreed to buy Absa Group’s entire 63.32 percent stake in two Kenyan insurers. The companies are First Assurance Company Limited and Absa Life Assurance Kenya Limited.

The musalia mudavadi business acquisition sh3bn is estimated at about Sh3 billion, or roughly $23.2 million. Some industry sources say Absa could seek at least Sh3.8 billion for the two stakes.

The transaction completes a full circle for the investors. In 2015, Mudavadi and his partners sold the same majority stakes to Barclays Africa, now Absa Group, for about Sh2.2 billion. Buying them back at a higher valuation reflects how much the businesses have grown over the decade.

The ownership structure is worth understanding. Syndicate Nominees, a company Mudavadi declared in Parliament, holds 52.5 percent of First Assurance Investments.

Exclusive Holding Limited holds the remaining 47.5 percent, and Lamu Governor Issa Timamy is a director and shareholder of the vehicle. Syndicate Nominees also holds a separate 12.35 percent stake directly in First Assurance. Combined, this gives Mudavadi an effective stake of about 21.26 percent, rather than ownership of the full block.

The deal still needs approval from the Competition Authority of Kenya and the Insurance Regulatory Authority. Absa says customer products and services will not be affected while the review continues.

Why the Insurers Matter

Absa Life ranks as the seventh-largest life insurer in Kenya, and First Assurance is thirteenth among general insurers. First Assurance traces its roots to 1930, when it began as Prudential Assurance. Kenyan investors took full ownership in 1991. Absa Life was licensed in 2015 and became the first Kenyan life insurer built on a bancassurance model.

How rich is Musalia Mudavadi? During his 2022 parliamentary vetting, he placed his net worth at roughly Sh4 billion. Some reports put the figure at Sh4.4 billion.

The mudavadi net worth in dollars comes to about $31.7 million at the time of that declaration. The net worth of mudavadi placed him at the top of the Cabinet list, ahead of Moses Wetang’ula’s colleagues such as Muturi at Sh700 million and Mutua at Sh420 million.

On mudavadi net worth 2026, no new official declaration has been published. The Sh4 billion to Sh4.4 billion range remains the most reliable public benchmark of the mudavadi worth.

The insurance transaction could add further weight to that portfolio once it closes. Readers comparing other leaders, including Ruto, Raila Odinga, Uhuru Kenyatta, Kalonzo and Atwoli, should rely on each leader’s own official declarations.

Expensive Things Mudavadi Owns

The mudavadi wealth things list shows a diversified portfolio built on property, equities and aviation. His declared assets add up to roughly Sh4.1 billion:

  • Riverside Stables: valued at Sh1 billion, the largest single asset in the portfolio.
  • Rental office spaces: worth about Sh870 million, producing steady recurring income.
  • Absa Bank shares: valued at Sh545 million.
  • First Assurance shareholdings: worth Sh440 million.
  • Malulu Land and Development: valued at Sh250 million.
  • Exclusive Air Services helicopter rentals: worth Sh200 million.
  • Jodeci Investments: valued at Sh120 million.
  • High-end motor vehicles: worth Sh44 million.
  • Other investments and properties: valued at about Sh650 million.

Mudavadi has said his main income comes from rental property, dividends, interest and farm proceeds. That mix of recurring revenue gives the portfolio stability.

Absa Shares and the Bigger Picture

The absa shares in his portfolio are valued at Sh545 million, and they link him to one of Kenya’s largest banks. Absa is also increasing its stake in Absa Bank Kenya from 68.5 percent to 85 percent.

That Sh30.9 billion transaction shows the group remains committed to the Kenyan market. Meanwhile, Absa has been reorganising its insurance interests across Africa, selling operations in Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique in 2025.

For local investors, the insurance deal returns control of two established brands to Kenyan hands. Analysts note that insurance penetration in Kenya remains around 3 percent, which leaves considerable room for growth.
